Example:

Tom and Tessy share £60 in the ratio 2 : 3

How much did each of them get?

Solution:

2 + 3 = 5

Therefore, we will divide the money into 5 parts.

£60 ÷ 5 = 12

Each part = £12

Tom's share is 2 parts: 2 x 12 = £24

Tessy's share is 3 parts: 3 x 12 = £36
